Jerry Sutterfield Obituary

Jerry Don Sutterfield LOCKNEY - Jerry Don Sutterfield, age 73, of Lockney, passed away, Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in Lockney. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney with Jay Don Poindexter officiating. Interment will follow at the Lockney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Arrangements are under the care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Don was born Sept. 13, 1940, in McClain County, Okla., at home to Floyd and Bessie Sutterfield. He moved to Tulia, Texas, in 1963 to work as a farm hand for his uncle Charles Sutterfield. While in Tulia he met the love of his life Shirley Ann Nevins. They were married May 29, 1964. They lived in Plainview before moving to Lockney in 1965. In 1968 he began farming on his own. He spent the next 46 years farming. Don loved to farm, fish and play with his grandkids. Everyone knew when Don was around because of his joyful laugh. He was a deacon at the Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney from 1968 until 2007 when he was appointed an elder. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Sutterfield of Lockney: three sons, Glenn Sutterfield and wife Amy of Lockney; David Sutterfield and wife Jessica of Amarillo; Jeffrey Sutterfield and wife Amanda of Lockney; two sister Carolyn Watkins and husband Jim of Stillwater Okla.: Shirley Byers and husband Johnnie of Commanche Okla., two brothers Dexter Sutterfield and wife Janice of Bartlesville Okla.; Charles M. Sutterfield and wife Esther of Lawton Okla.; and seven grandchildren, Emily, Caytlin, Caleb, Jaycie, Brody, Allison and Sawyer. Memorials may be made in Jerry's name to Hospice Hands of West Texas, National Parkinson's Association, Lockney Fire Department, or charity of your choice.
