Otero Scheele Obituary

Otero Brown Scheele Funeral services for Otero Brown Scheele, 85, of the Providence community will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gerald Boerger officiating; she donated her body to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Medical School. The oldest of five daughters, Mrs. Scheele was born to Ralph and Hettie Brown on March 6, 1927, was a lifelong resident of the Providence community, and passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 19, 2012. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1944, and shortly after in that same year, married her childhood sweetheart, Albert Scheele, who preceded her in death in 1998. After raising their six children, God called her to pursue a profession in nursing in 1974, and through this calling, she ministered to her many neighbors and friends, whether it be through her years of service to the Plainview hospital, local nursing centers (including the Prairie House), hospice, Hale County Crisis Center Board or local doctors' offices (primarily Larry Karrh, M.D.). Her compassion and expert clinical skills allowed her to lovingly care for her patients, both in acute and terminal illnesses. In addition, she was unofficially known as the "Providence vet," often taking in and caring for animals that seemed to have little to no chance of survival, or racing over to a neighbor's home to assist them in caring for their livestock or a beloved pet. Her life was a testimony to her love for the Lord - Mrs. Scheele was a 50-plus year member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Providence, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview since 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Patsy, and is survived by sisters Marie, Maxine and Shirley, along with her six children, Linda, David and wife Charlotte, Diane, Becky and husband Randy, Lisa and husband David, Ralph and wife Detra, along with 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund (www.stpaulplv.org) or Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org).
