Ronald VanGordon Obituary

Ronald Van Gordon, 84, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at First Methodist Church of Canyon with Frank Chambers officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Friday in Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Brooks Chapel. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

Ronnie was born on May 21, 1937 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Van and Evelyn Gordon. He graduated from Hollis High School in 1955 and started working for Southwestern Public Service in July of 1956. Ronnie married Glenda Weldon on November 30, 1957. He worked for SPS for 41 years before retiring in 1997. After living in Plainview for 40 years, they moved to Canyon in 2005.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Carol, and brother-in-law, Don Wilkinson. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Gordon; two daughters, Donna Torrez of Nashville, Tennessee and Ronna and Lee Simpson of Canyon; grandchildren, Jordan and Garrett Simpson of Canyon, Amanda Torrez, and Cooper and Madeline Torrez all of Nashville, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Scott and Mack Torrez; one sister, Betty and Bob Allison of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Amarillo Senior Citizens, PO Box 30424, Amarillo, TX 79120.

Sorry to hear of his passing. Knew him many years while he was in Plainview. We would always get caught up at the Amarillo gun show. A kind man who always had time to talk. I will miss him.
