Selso Garcia Obituary

Selso Garcia HALE CENTER -- Funeral Mass for Selso Garcia, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Theresa's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at the church. Mr. Garcia died Thursday, March 16, 2006, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo. He was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Crosbyton. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Jan. 29, 1943, to Nov. 10, 1945. He married Nellie Gonzales on May 17, 1948, in Clovis, N.M. He was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church where he was a musician, a Sacred Heart member, a member of Cursillistas and a Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife; nine sons, Selso Garcia, Jr. of Hobbs, N.M., David Garcia of Plainview, Gene Garcia of Lubbock, Rudy Garcia and Alvin Garcia of Amarillo, John Garcia of Harker Heights, Joe Garcia and Raymond Garcia of Hale Center and Andrew Garcia of Barto, Pa.; five daughters, Christine Martinez of Burleson, Vicki Garcia of Lubbock, Patsy Gomez of Canyon, Mary Ramon of Hale Center and Lionora Olvera of Plainview; four brothers, Tony Garcia and Martin Garcia of Hale Center, Claudio Garcia of Virginia and Manuel Garcia of Burley, Idaho; five sisters, Ruby Badillo of Lubbock, Julia Rocha and Alice Caberra of Magna, Utah, Stella Vargas of Hale Center and Gloria Soto of Phoenix, Ariz.; 50 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren. Three grandchildren, Toby Garcia, Seanda Garcia and Nicholas Garcia, are deceased.

Garcia family: I am so sorry to hear about the loss of dear uncle Selso. He was a very special person, and will be missed and remembered for a very long time! I am so thankful that we got to see him a few months ago, but wish we could have attended the funeral. Our condolences to all. The Navarros - Julie, Benito, Emily, Alison, and Sara.
