Winnie Sudduth Obituary

Winnie Jo Sudduth LUBBOCK - Winnie Jo Sudduth passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Westmont Christian Church. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Winnie Jo Sudduth was born May 11, 1918, in Vernon, Texas, to the late A.H. and Winnie Hooser. She grew up in Plainview, Texas. Jo married Dexy F. Sudduth on Aug. 31, 1941. After several years in the Air Force, they moved to Plainview and lived there until 1956 when they moved to Lubbock. Dexy preceded her in death May 31, 1995. Jo was a graduate of Plainview High School and Texas Tech University where she received hours toward her master's and received certification in all areas of special education. She was an active member of Pi Beta Phi national sorority where she served as a national officer with the Province of New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. She also served on several national committees. Jo served as president of Plainview Junior Service League and was active in Plainview First Christian Church and the Women's Club. She was a substitute teacher in Lubbock ISD for a number of years. From 1971 until her retirement in 1984, she worked at Region 17 Education Service Center where she was a consultant in special education and later a coordinator in instructional materials. Jo was elder emeritus of Westmont Christian Church where she had been a member since 1979. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sue Gilbreath and friend Charles Brown, Kay Young and her husband Bill; brother, Jimmy Hooser and his wife Jo of Austin; grandchildren, Tracy (John) Fenter, Kaki Goecks, Greg (Jennifer) Young and Shelly McNabney; great-grandchildren Aspen, Braden, Jake and Justin Fenter, Averi Goecks, Mason and Lauryn Young and Rylie and Reid McNabney. A heartfelt thanks goes to Sylvia (Gilbert) Gonzalez and Lilly (Robert) Castillo. The family suggests memorials to Westmont Christian Church, 4808 Utica Ave., Lubbock, TX 79414.
