James Obermeyer Obituary
Jim is survived by his 5 children: Jane (Ed) Reeves of Poteau, OK, William (Sarah) Obermeyer of Valparaiso, IN, Susan Obermeyer of Pasadena, CA, Carol (Ben) Detloff of Grant Park, IL and Michael (Vickie) Obermeyer of Newnan, GA; 8 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 foster children; 3 brothers: Bob (Jodie) Obermeyer, Tom (Rita) Obermeyer and Don (Kathy) Obermeyer; sister, Mary Chesak. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Obermeyer; brother, William Obermeyer; and grandson, Ian Obermeyer.
Jim graduated from Rensselaer High School, Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart. Jim earned a Bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a Master's degree from the University of Missouri. He spent his career as a Structural and Agricultural Engineer. Jim enjoyed restoring cars, dancing and inventing items that he received patents for. He will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:30 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 5:00 PM. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Jim's name to Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville, IN.

Jim was good man as are all the obermeyer kids good folks. I grew up with them as we were neighbors and rode the school bus together. Ill never forget the time Jim gave me a ride on his motorcycle. I was just a kid so long ago. Hope Mary and the boys I doing well.

My condolences to all,the family. I grew up with the Obermyer family we were neighbors rode the school bus together I remember Jim giving me a ride on his motorcycle they all had the neatest toys. Rest in pease Jim.

Jim was a faithful member & dancer for Save the Tunes Council. Having him dance to our music for about 20 years was a treat. I will miss him as so many others will.

Jim was a wonderful person. I meant him when I was line dancing at the Ranch many years ago. He was one in a million so unique in his personality and zest for life (& dancing). I will miss him greatly but he left many wonderful memories.
