Jason Hickman Obituary

Jason Orville Hickman, 55, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., died on Sept. 12, 2023, in Gaylord, Mich.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1967, in Rensselaer, to Orville "Jay" W. Jr., and Norma Jean (Hauptli) Hickman.

Jason grew up in Rensselaer and graduated from Rensselaer High School and attended Northwestern Business College, where he received his degree in Diesel Technology. He began driving trucks before working for the Hayden Garage as a tow truck driver. In 1994, he started BTZ Transport driving all over the United States. He ran his business for eight years, before moving his family to Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where he believed it was paradise. Over the years, he has worked for O'Connor's Chrysler Dodge and the Gary Socia Company. In 2022, he began working for the Country Club and later for Ken Graham Trucking.

Jason loved spending time outside. He enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, boating, off-roading, and four-wheeling. He also loved spending time with his boys and family.

Jason is survived by his mother, Norma Hickman; sons, Brandon (Candice) Hickman, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Travis (Amber) Hickman, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Zach Hickman, Delphos, Ohio; nephews, Bryce Hickman and Zach Daake, both of Rensselaer; niece, Grace Daake, Rochester; brothers, David (Jennifer) Daake, Rochester, and Aaron Hickman, Rensselaer; and dear friend, James Castle, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Orville "Jay" Hickman.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 11:30 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
