Nancy Mae McCormick (Layman), 75, of Surfside Beach, SC, has entered the Church Triumphant on September 17, 2025. "I am pleased, my good and faithful servant" would be her greeting at the foot of throne of our God.
Nancy was born on November 11, 1949 in Woodbury, NJ. She was a 1967 graduate of Salem High School, Salem, NJ. In her time in HS, she was a member of the Homecoming Queen court, the Candy Striper Queen, and the Salem County Fair Queen. She then went on to be a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and a licensed Register Nurse. She married David Gary McCormick on May 8, 1971 while he was serving in the US Air Force. Her RN experience was in Med-Surg Units at U of P and in Biloxi, MS, the US Army Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, the VA Hospital in Syracuse, NY, Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ, Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ and Lafayette College as a campus nurse. After being "super nurse" for 13 years, she altered her course and opened the consignment clothing store Nice As New, Easton, PA. After a bout with breast cancer in 1992, she was named the BMW Hometown Hero in 1996 for her volunteer work with women undergoing breast cancer treatment, her work with the
American Cancer Society, and her leadership in the
Relay For Life Cancer Walk. As an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, PA, she also supported her husband's volunteer work playing in the contemporary band. Retiring in 2003 after her beloved store burned down, she spent much of her time with her son, Ryan, who had acquired cancer from his work as a Paramedic on 9/11 at the WTC. In 2007, she and her husband retired to Oceanside Village in Surfside. She survived another battle with breast cancer in 2015 and was diagnosed with PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) 3 years ago. Nancy will always be remembered for her loving, selfless demeanor, her hard work ethic, and her love of her family.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Orville and Patricia Layman, her son, Ryan McCormick, and her sister, Barbara Bradway. She is survived by 2 brothers, David and Orville Layman, and a sister, Amy, by her husband of 54 years, David Gary McCormick of Surfside, daughter, Jessica Lynne Blahosky of Allentown, PA, with her husband Chris, and 5 year old grandson Oliver of Allentown, PA and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Per Nancy's wishes, there will be no service for her as she was a very private, quiet person who worked behind the scenes. In lieu of flowers, her request was for any donations in her name to be sent to Shepherd of the Sea (Lutheran Church), 2637 Hwy 17 Business South, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 with the Ryan McCormick Music Endowment Fund noted in the memo of the check.
A most beautiful soul is now with her Lord and Savior.
