Barry Joel Small 65, passed away April 19, 2012, Wilmington, NC.
He was born September 24, 1946, in Manhattan, New York, a son of the late Allen and Estelle Zavolinsky Small. His oldest daughter, Marne passed away in 1999, at the age of 27. Barry never recovered from the loss of his beloved daughter.
He attended the University of Maryland, where he studied Psychology and Business Marketing and played football. Barry was a successful real estate developer, industry innovator and was seen as a role model and a mentor in his business and personal life.
His children remembered Barry as a loving father who would take them on special trips and date nights. Barry loved to laugh, had a quick witted sense of humor and will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his children, Shannon Small and wife Katrina of Atlanta, GA, Heather S. Pellegrino and husband Steven of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jake Small of Conway, SC, Joey Small and Samantha Small both of Little River, SC, his sisters, Beth Pereria and Susan Small of Queens, NY., and his two grandchildren, Mia Pellegrino and Liliy Small.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM, Monday, April 30, 2012, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with Dr. J. Kirk Lawton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

My condolances to the family. I haven't seen Barry for about 15 years but have many memories.Although I didn't know his younger children I hope that Shannon & Heather will remember me, my thoughts will be with you during this time.

I am very sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I will always remember Barry's competitive spirit, which I greatly appreciated! I will always picture Barry at Kingston Plantation working out, benching about 400lbs! He would turn and say "Okay now it's your turn", I would say "I think we are gonna need to drop that weight down A LOT"! He will be missed.
