Eddie, Steve & Debbie: So very sorry to hear about your Mom. So many years have passed, people come and go,but I will always remember your Mom as a fun loving woman. She was so good to me when I needed a friend when my Mom was dying. She is now looking down on you and smiling that beautiful smile of hers. I will always remember her in my heart. RIP Beverly.

My thoughts and prayers are with Beverly's family and friends. I was so blessed to know and work with her. She, Debbie, Steven, and Crayton were so kind to allow me to join them at Thanksgiving my first year living in Myrtle Beach. Beverly had a wonderful spirit and lit up every room she entered. She will be greatly missed on Earth, but her love will continue to shine in each of us.

To the family of Beverly Clark:

As the Historian for the Atlantic Beach Historical Society, I am writing on their behalf a
LETTER OF APPRECIATION in Memoriam for the life and work of Beverly Clark in preserving the history of Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, 2000 to 2010.

We are so grateful to have presented a certificate of appreciation in person to Beverly at our Preserving Memories program in June 2007.

Thanks to her longstanding and highly vocal protests at meetings of the Myrtle Beach City Council, the Chamber of Commerce was most receptive to our Sun Fun first ever multicultural parade float. She never rode herself, but proudly cheered our array of Waccamaw Indians, Colombians, Africans (Americans) and Scots-Irish down Ocean Blvd., and in the first year-- also for the first time--an Atlantic Beach contingency that included an AB Girls Drill Team, Carolina Knight Riders motorcyclists, and Mayor Irene Armstrong. The celebration in Chapin Park following each parade was also attributed to Beverly’s gentle pushing!--even getting her beloved Joseph Bethea United Methodist Church to contribute the first $100 donation. She brought her sister and family, too, while son Stephen did the artwork for the souvenir T-shirts. Beverly was a faithful attendee at our Gullah/Geechee Festivals though she preferred the multicultural ones.

I met Beverly in 2000 upon arriving in Myrtle Beach and becoming involved with Atlantic Beach. She reached out to me as a newcomer whom she felt could take over the activist reigns that she and son Stephen had held a few years earlier, particularly in the political arena. They had helped manage the campaign of Mayor Irene Armstrong.

She got me onto the Beach Music Association International board headed by Billy Scott, the very popular beach music performer whom I had met earlier in Conway who has a long history staying in AB during segregation while performing in Myrtle Beach.
Even as a member of the AB Housing Authority, Beverly could always be counted upon to speak truth and defend the honor of the historic values of Atlantic Beach.
She bought an early edition of our book Atlantic Beach and had me to autograph it.
She spoke proudly of her daughter and other son, even as Stephen was by her side.

May God Bless her Soul and may the family find comfort in knowing that Beverly Clark was a Champion of worthy causes and did her part beyond speaking to help actualize them for the betterment of the whole community.

NOTE: A copy of this letter was priority mailed to the family home on Fri., and by regular mail to the Joseph Bethea Church, Atlantic Beach Historical Society Members and Gullah Geechee Group Board members. Some were emailed. It is listed on the In Memoriam page of our www.gullahgeecheenews.com "newsSource" and will be mentioned on our www.blogtalkradio.com show Wed. April 7 at 5:30-6:30 p.m. Hope some of this gets through in time, since I will not be able regrettably to attend the service. SAS
