Brendan Callan Obituary

RHINEBECK, N.Y. | Brendan F. Callan, 61, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

A Dutchess County resident since the age of 22 when he came here from Ireland, he was one of the owner-operators of the Traphagen Restaurant at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck. Before purchasing the Traphagen Restaurant, he was co-owner of Le Petit Bistro in Rhinebeck, had worked for the Foglia family at the Ship Lantern Inn in Milton, N.Y., and owned Brendan's Restaurant at the Dutchess County Airport.

He was born March 20, 1942, in Drumconrath, County Meath, Ireland, a son of the late James and Mary Duff Callan.

On Oct. 27, 2002, in Rhinebeck, he married Daniela J. ''Dani'' Fermanich.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter and her companion, Jannine Cimorelli and Kari of Kingston, N.Y., a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Al Davies of Poughkeepsie; a daughter and her fiance, Joella Callan and Chris of Hyde Park, N.Y.; a son, James Callan of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Maura Kaley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nancy O'Neill of Ireland; six brothers, Johnny, Packie, Noel, Tony, Nicholas and Finian Callan, all of Ireland; his first wife, Judy Callan of Myrtle Beach; his second wife, Dee Callan of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Kaylynn, Alexis, Maggie and Brianna; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kevin Callan.

A memorial service was at 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Burnett and White Funeral Homes, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck. The Rev. Lisa McMillan officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Ireland.
