Charles Parrish Obituary

EASLEY | Charles Addison ''Chuck'' Parrish, 58, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born in Greenville County and reared in Greenville, Raleigh, N.C., and Easley, Chuck was the son of Mrs. Ernestine Sitton Parrish of Easley, and the late Benson Clayton Parrish Sr. He was a graduate of Easley High School and Clemson University and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Easley.

He served in the S.C. National Guard, Easley unit, from 1968 until 1974. Chuck was devoted to his alma mater, Clemson, and was a sports enthusiast. He was also known to be a very empathetic supporter of his USC, UNC and Duke buddies. During his career,Chuck served as Assistant Pro at Green Valley Country Club in Greenville and Club Manager of Belle Isle Plantation in Georgetown. His illness forced his retirement as a golf director from Brunswick Plantation on the North Carolina coast.

A resident, until recently, of North Myrtle Beach, Chuck enjoyed his passions of dancing, playing golf, and beach music. His charismatic personality was a joy to all he met and no one was a stranger.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a daughter, Lee McDowell Parrish and her fiance, Yancey A. McLeod III; a son, Charles Addison Parrish Jr.; a sister, Stella Sitton Parrish, all of Columbia; a brother, Benson C. Parrish Jr. and his wife, Meredith, of Lincolnton, Ga.; nine nieces, nephews and their spouses, and a great niece. Chuck was predeceased by his heroes; father, Benson Clayton Parrish Sr. and sister, Tena Parrish Hendricks.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Easley, with the Rev. Mac Kinnett officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Beale, Wendell Cantrell, John Cartee, Johnny Cutchin, Syd McDaniel, George Osburn, Dr. Calvin Snipes, Dr. Bill Spearman, Glenn Vick, The Honorable Edward Welmaker and Wayne Williams.

A celebration of Chuck's life will be conducted at a later date by faithful friends at the OD Pavilion in North Myrtle Beach.

I met Chuck over 15 years ago and we had some special times. Especially dancing with that leg going up in the air and hitting the speakers at the Pad in 1989. What a great guy and super friend. I will miss him dearly.

Wait for us Chuck and all of your friends will be dancing with you in the sky .

Chuck was one of a kind. He always had a smile when I saw him out dancing and we shared a very funny inside joke. He will be missed very much.

Chuck was a "one of a kind" special person. He could put sunshine in your heart with his smile and personality. He was always there when you were down to cheer you with his smile and encouragement.

He had a zest for life that was demonstrated in his graciousness, wit and understanding. He made you laugh with his jokes, remarks, facial expressions and those crazy shag steps. May God provide for you for all eternity. You have earned it Chuck.

Love,

Peggy and John Barnett

Chuck Parrish was a friend for the past 13 years; a Spartanburg buddy. Always complementary and caring, joking and fun, he made the effort to be selfless in his illness and sharing in his life. He will be missed. He would love to know that I have said - "I loved dancing with Chuck." My sincere sympathy to Stella, his brothers and mother.
