Dolores means compassion. This is what my mother was; as well as having the gifts of encouragement, and hospitality. She had a strong spirit of adventure, and was brave and bold. Her love for reading made her always the student. She was my friend, my cheerleader, and my prayer partner. I got a chance to work in the same office with her in the 70s and we would sing praise songs to God as well as pray for our coworkers on our drive together into work. She was an amazing self taught seamstress- making wedding gowns, prom dresses, stretch and sew T-shirts, smocked dresses for my daughters; and she helped me homeschool my youngest as well as helping me tend my husbands illness. She was a student of the field of endocrinology as she demonstrated a deep knowledge to the doctors who treated my dad with his chronic type 1 diabetes. She was his lifeline.
I learned to listen to the Holy Spirit the way she did and live a faith that was moment to moment. She and my dad joined EE (Evangelism Explosion) and were trained to share a simple gospel to those who would listen. She and my dad joined us on the prayer team and preparation committee to bring Answers in Genesis to Albany NY Palace Theater; and when we got to Myrtle Beach- we did a skit together at the Christian school chapel. She and my dad were members and participants of the Worldview Discussion Group in Myrtle Beach.
I will continue to teach the things she taught me, passing along the skills and the wisdom to my daughters and their families.
