Edward L. Ard

MURRELLS INLET | Edward Legrand Ard, 70, of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, in a Charleston hospital after an illness.

Mr. Ard was born in Florence County, South Carolina, a son of the late Redmon Legrand and Daisy Lee Abrams Ard.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Mr. Ard was the meat market manager for the A & P Food Store in Kingstree for 36 years and was employed with Wal-Mart in the meat market in Surfside.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.

Mr. Ard was a terrific husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Joyce Alexander, who died in 2004.

Surviving are three children, Michael (Darcy) Ard of Timberlake, N.C., Alex (Jackie) Ard of Florence and Vonda Kay Ard of Murrells Inlet; two sisters, Leona Ard Marsh of Georgetown and Wilma Ard (Robert) Chestnut of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Eileen, Redmon, Naomi, Camilla and James; and one great-grandchild, Skylar.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2007, in the Friendfield Pentecostal Holiness Church near Scranton, S.C.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ard, 6861 Isgett Road, Florence.
