Dear Kaye, David and Lane,

I am so sorry that we have lost Gretchen. For me she will always be the girl who caught the bouquet at my wedding, eagerly stepping forward into life when others stayed back cautiously. I know the past years have not been easy, but you have done what you could and she is smiling at you from heaven, fully aware of your love as never before. The love and prayers of the whole Morin mob are with you.

July 29, 2003

Kaye, Dave and Lane,

Your grief, pain and devastation is an understandable reaction to the events of the past week.

Kaye and Dave, as a parent, how very unfair this tragedy must feel. Because of the love that I feel as a mother for my precious Jeremiah, I cannot fathom the horror of a child’s death. May cherished memories from Gretchen’s childhood, her own little special moments with you, her parents, and her vast accomplishments in adulthood, bring you memories of contented times.

Lane, as a sister, you were special. Gretchen held you in high regard. Your hauntingly lonely times can be filled with reflections on extraordinary times shared. Those sister times are special and unique. Cherish these memories and hold them close to your heart. It is from them that you are granted the strength to heal and be at peace within yourself.

You all know of our love and dedication to each of as individuals, in a wonderful family. Jeremiah and I have presented prayers that you will be granted a peace that will overcome the feelings of ruin. We have no doubt that God will sustain you during a time that seems to engulf with darkness. Please believe that one day the light God’s love will be shining bright in your heart.
