Our community has lost a grand gentleman. I never saw him when he didn't have a smile on his face. Hazel genuinely cared about people and would do anything he could to help someone. Anyone who spent time with him was a better person for it. I am truely saddened by his passing, but will always smile when I reflect on a life lived as one we should all strive to emulate.

I still remember running around Herbert Taylor field as Coach Hatchell ran us through practice drills. Later he wrote the insurance policy on my first car. Forvever having a smile on his face and always a kind word to share, Hazel Hatchell was someone who lived the Great Commandment. He had a great impact on the lives of many.

Mrs.Hatchell, girls and family, just wanted to express our love for him and you.Words don't do justice to the man he was.Since I can remember my Dad and Mr Hatchell were the two most influential men in my life, especially in the Little League years,he didn't teach baseball,he taught life,in as how to live it.He would educate and correct you,but he lived his life as an example to all.Friendly, intelligent, gracious, kind,
devout in his faith.Always with a smile and a helping hand.My Dad's best friend,oh it hurts to think of him and the heartache and void he leaves behind. One who will be sorely missed, better stick a St Louis hat in there or he'll get upset.I can't begin to tell you what him and his family meant to me and mine.Remember the good times...most were if he was around.RIP and God Bless.Love you all,Bill Benton

Dear Claudette and Family,

Mr. Hazel Hatchell Jr. made a lasting impression on all fortunate enough to have known him. He and Mrs. Hatchell have always been there for my family. Mere words could never explain the impact Hazel has had on so many people in the Myrtle Beach area. I have always loved him, Claudette and his family. He lived his life by setting the right example and by being there to help others. Hazel has always put his family and his faith first. He has always been an inspiration to me! We all have lost a genuine, loving, caring soul. I always have felt that if I needed Hazel or Claudette that they would be there for me. May God bless Claudette, Denise, Elease, Rebecca and all other family members. I will truly miss him but take comfort knowing one day we will again be united in Gods presence. Fair well my lifelong friend, you truly were a great human being.

Claudette and family....Myrtle Beach is a better place because Hazel walked through. He worked hard to do what was right for others. He was always concerned about the needs of his clients. At First Baptist, he was a leader in so many areas. His love for God was strong and I know that he and Jimmy,Louise, his mom & dad are having a good time catching up. He will be greatly missed by so many.
