James "Jimmy" Edgar Rowe, Jr
Hemingway, SC
Mr. James (Jimmy) Edgar Rowe, Jr., 75, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at home. Jimmy was born in Hemingway, a son of the late James (Jim) Edgar Rowe, Sr. and the late Lucy Cribb Rowe. He was a retired farmer and was an equipment sales representative. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1959 and attended the University of South Carolina. He was an active member of Center Baptist Church, where his duties included deacon, choir member, youth leader, and director of Sunday School. He was also a member of the Indiantown Masonic Lodge #165 and the Omar Shrine Temple, and he was a founding member and director of the Omar Jailbirds Unit in Hemingway and the Omar Peddlers of Conway. His community activities included: developed the rural fire program in Georgetown County, served as an area chief, a member of the Pleasant Hill area school advisory board, and an active member of the Folly Grove Community Organization. His other civic duties included the Georgetown County Water and Sewer Commissioner and Georgetown County Farm Bureau officer and delegate. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Ducks Unlimited advocate. Jimmy loved to cook and entertain. He was most famous for his chicken pileau and bar-b-que dinners. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Linda Avant Rowe; son, James (Jay) Edgar Rowe, III, of Surfside Beach; daughters, Gay Rowe Owens (Barry) of Hemingway, Erica Rowe Haddock (Dee) of Pawleys Island; grandchildren, Tyler Olivia Owens, Christian Cru Odis Owens, Zachary James Owens, Juliana Rayne Owens, Henry James Haddock, and Mary Clayton Haddock; sisters, Joyce (Floyd) Tyler, Isle of Palms, Patsy (Rubeth Earl) Williams, Hemingway; sisters-in-law, Claudia (R.L.) Owens, Charleston, Joan Ruth Cribb, Hemingway; brother-in-law, Truitt (Dot) Owens, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. He and his family are grateful to his wonderful caregivers: Larry Melvin, Chris Doctor, and Sarah Coles. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Rowe Owens and Shelby Rowe Douglas. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, October 9, 2017, in the Center Baptist Church. Burial, with Full Masonic Rites, will be in the church cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 pm, Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Center Baptist Church, 2602 Schoolhouse Drive Hemingway, South Carolina, 29554. Loved this man !

A loving husband, father & friend to so many people. Had the pleasure of working with Jimmy for several years at Richbourg´s Sales & Rentals. He never met a person he didn´t like & always had a smile that said he cared about you.
