I was so sorry to hear about the loss of J. Edward. We called him "J. Edward" after meeting him on a cruise in 1982. There were three of us and a bunch of his co-workers on the S.S. Norway that November. It was an instant friendship and we have kept in touch over the years. There was another cruise and several trips to Myrtle Beach. He was always the perfect host and such a delight to be around. I had dinner last night with friends who had just purchased a condo in Myrtle Beach and I told them to be sure to eat at J. Edward's. They said they had been going to J. Edward's for years but last week found it closed and for sale. Thus, my search on the internet, only to find this sad, sad news. The last time I saw J. Edward was a couple of years ago when friends and I were in Myrtle Beach. We went to the restaurant and were greeted with open arms. They weren't very busy that night and J. Edward was able to spend most of the evening with us. I will always treasure that last visit with him. My deepest sympathies to his famly and friends. He was a kind and generous man and I know he will be missed.

I am sorry to hear about this so long after it happened. He will be joining my mom and dad who ate at his restaurant every year during their winter months in Myrtle Beach before they passed away. He always treated my mother like a queen and she loved him for it. He will truly be missed by the extended Melvin family.

I am so sorry and shocked to learn of Ed's death. My family and I have been eating at his restaurant since 1988. From our first visit, he never forgot us and treated us like family. He gave us shirts, caps, glasses. We always wore the shirts when we would go there to eat and he seemed so pleased. Myrtle Beach will never be the same to us now, as that was the fist place we would go when we got to the beach. My prayers are with all of you. You had a "special" brother.

We were so sorry to hear about Ed. He was always so good to my daughters, Jessica and Jamie, from before they were born through their last birthday at his restaurant. When I was pregnant, he would just show up and bring me his homemade chicken salad when were we at the beach house in the summer. Always thoughtful. Always kind. Jamie learned to climb stairs at his beach house when she was a baby. Miss Eva kept us all straight and he let her post her rules in the bathroom. From going on a wonderful cruise to a memorable trip to Atlantic City, when the weather was bad and he hired the taxi to drive us all the way to the NY airport, he was always a class act.
To you Ed - a toast in your honor!

Much love to the family ,

This is so painful for so many of the people whose lives were touched by Ed. I don't know another person who was more generous and more loving. He loved to be on the giving side and seemed uncomfortable on the receiving side. Many of us cannot count the good times and good conversations that we had with Edward. May the family he left behind be proud to have had him as a brother. I was proud to be his cousin by nature and close friend by choice. My heart goes out to Ed's family and I want you to know that I am here when you need me. I love you all.

To the Fleming family...

I had the pleasure of meeting Ed in 1981 when I was trying to sell him an ad in my Myrtle Beach Guide, and subsequently my Strand Magazine.

Every time I would visit Ed he was extremely cordial, and always went out of his way to make me feel welcome.

We always have a drink and talked about the good, bad and disappointing about the Myrtle Beach area.

Ed always had good ideas and truly loved the Beach.

In all those years, I never did sell him an ad, but I learned a great deal, and would not trade a moment of the truly quality time I spent with Ed Fleming.
