Lonnie Strickland Obituary

ORANGEBURG | Lonnie Monroe Strickland, 83, died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Laurel Baye Healthcare in Orangeburg, S.C.

Mr. Strickland was born in Nichols, South Carolina, the son of the late Edward Monroe and Martha Ray Strickland.

A U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II with the 17th and 82nd Airborne Division, Mr. Strickland was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Strickland retired from Coble Dairy with 28 years of service.

He was a member of Revelon Baptist Church in Orangeburg, S.C.

Mr. Strickland was predeceased by five brothers, Ernest, Fletcher, Thurman, Grover and Marshall Strickland.

Surviving are his wife, Mona K. Strickland of Orangeburg, S.C.; a son, John L. Monroe Strickland of Orangeburg, S.C.; a daughter, Kitty Murdock of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a stepson, Trent Cooper of Oklahoma; two grandsons, Eathan Chandler Strickland and Steven Murdock; a granddaughter, Stephanie Murdock Richardson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Haylie and Hannah Richardson; and a sister, Agnes Shelley of Jamestown, N.C.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. J. Kirk Lawton Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel.
