Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - Martin A. Bernstein, 89, passed away on August 13, 2021. He was born September 10, 1931 in Lemburg, Poland. He emigrated to the United States in 1937 and eventually settled in North Carolina. He served in the US Army and was commemorated for meritorious service during the Korean War. Following his military service, he graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. After college, he was employed by his family's business, Leder Brothers, Inc. where he worked for over 40 years in various capacities.
Throughout his life, he was an active leader in the Jewish communities of Whiteville and Jacksonville, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC where he served as president of all three congregations. He loved spending time on the beach and was happiest when his extended family could join him. He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Sara, his children, Samuel (Nancy) of Charlotte, NC and Eileen (Fred) Springer of Stamford, CT, five grandchildren, Karen Bernstein, Elizabeth (Cameron) Rifkin, Jenna Bernstein, Paul (Amy) Springer and Ilana Springer (Danny Borkenstein), and his sisters, Marilyn Wilensky and Anne Bernstein.
Funeral services will be held at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, 910 67th Ave N, Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday, August 15 at 1:00 PM followed by burial at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, 2408 South Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC.
The family requests that all attendees wear masks and maintain social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Temple Emanu-El, 406 65th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572. An online guestbook is available at WWW.MSFH.Net
