Mary Thohar Arakas, 83, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
She was born September 28, 1934, in Wayne, PA, a daughter of the late John and Helen Thohar. She was predeceased by her husband, Stamatios "Tommy" Arakas and her son, Michael S. Arakas.
Mary moved to Myrtle Beach, in 1941. She and her mother owned and operated Mary-Helen Inn and By the Sea Motel. She married Tommy in 1962, and together owned and operated several restaurants. Mary and Tommy also were founding members of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church where she was a longtime member of the Ladies Philoptochos.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Arakas Teruel and Effie Arakas and grandchildren, Stamati Arakas, Vagelli Arakas, Maria Arakas, Maria Teruel, Christina Teruel and Katerina Teruel. Also surviving are, brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Brenda Arakas, and other relatives in the U.S. and Greece, including Maria and Anthony Amentas of Chios, Greece.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November, 28th at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery. Following the committal service, everyone is invited to attend the memorial luncheon at the church hall.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, November 27th at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Veronica Parker, Julie Rice Ballen and Lori Orbin, for their love and compassion, and also Dr. Victoria Moshoures and nurses, Shannon Adkins and Diane Freede.
