Nora Elizabeth Umberger passed away at age 85 on May 16, 2016 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born in Tremont County, Pennsylvania to Frank and Ella Rump. She was married to the late John W. Umberger, Sr and lived in Lebanon, Pennsylvania most of her life and more recently in Murrells Inlet.
Nora loved birds and loved to garden. She also enjoyed baking and preparing food for the many family gatherings at her house. Nora loved to walk the beach with her grandchildren collecting seashells. She was always nice to everyone she met and had many friends. Recently while in assisted living she loved to sing at the dining table much to the delight of her fellow residents. She was always remembered for her bright smile and her hearty laugh.
Survivors include two sisters, Catherine Bohannon of Myerstown PA, and Shirley Dundore of Lebanon PA, two sons, John Umberger, Jr and wife Melanie of Jasper, Georgia and James Umberger and wife Vicki of Murrells Inlet. Six grandchildren, John C. Umberger of Woodstock, GA, Kathryn Frank married to Michael Frank of Brooklyn, NY, Melissa Umberger married to Camilo Florez of Brooklyn NY, Carrie Sheppard of Rock Hill SC, Jamie Ridenhour married to Charles "Clif" Ridenhour of Rock Hill SC and Sara Umberger of Murrells Inlet SC, and seven great grandchildren, Harriet Nora Frank, Penelope Esther Frank, Charles James Ridenhour, Ella Jane Ridenhour, Maddie Lynn Ridenhour, Alexander James Sheppard, and Sofia Elizabeth Sheppard.
A family and friends gathering to celebrate Nora's life will be on Memorial Day, May 30th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC.
