Walker Rowe Obituary

EDISTO ISLAND | Walker ''Buddy'' Elliott Rowe Jr., husband of Van Leer Cockrill Rowe, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.



Walker was in born in Swansboro, N.C., Mar. 9, 1934, the son of Walker Elliott Sr. and Thelma Canady Rowe. He was retired from Marine Industries, Inc., a tugboat company, where he was the owner and President, and he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church on Edisto Island. He was also President and owner of Wilmington Tug and Barge, President and owner of Wilmington Towing Company, former Vice President of sales of the Southern Region for McAllister Towing, former southeast regional Vice President of the US Propeller Club, and former President of Georgetown US Propeller Club. Walker was a former member of Edisto Island Yacht Club and the Hatteras Blue Marlin Club, former President of the Catfish Farmers of America, and a member of Southern King Mackeral Associations and US Angler, and several hunting clubs. He attended N.C. State University and graduated from the University of S.C.



Surviving are his mother of Swansboro, N.C.; his wife of Edisto Island; two sons, Andrew Haselwood Rowe and his wife Regina Strange Rowe, of Mount Pleasant, and Walker Elliott Rowe III of Sperryville, Va.; one sister, Jean Rowe Hiott of Greenville; four grandchildren, Alexandra Laken, Rebecca Anne, Walker Elliott IV, and Nathaniel Tradd.



Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Walker Rowe Jr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in Trinity Episcopal Church, Edisto Island, Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. Interment will be private. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m.
