William Viers Obituary

MYRTLE BEACH | William C. ''Bill'' Viers Sr., 72, of Forestbrook Road, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Grand Strand Healthcare in Myrtle Beach.

Mr. Viers was born in Six, West Virginia, a son of the late Larkin Taylor and Margaret Ellen Ray Viers.

He was a member of Grand Strand Baptist Church. Mr. Viers was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Viers was a member of the American Legion Post 40, Disabled American Veterans, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was also a member of the Horry County Republican Party, South Strand Republican Club and North Myrtle Beach Republican Club.

Mr. Viers was predeceased by one daughter, Angela Hoffimire; one brother; and four sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda C. Viers of Myrtle Beach; three sons, Thad Viers of Myrtle Beach, Bart Viers of Ft. Stewart, Ga., and Carson Viers of Marion, Ohio; two stepsons, Brent Whan of Ashley, Ind., and Rob Whan of Spencerville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Kathleen Tiller of Marion, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 in Grand Strand Baptist Church with Dr. Freddie Young and the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ocean Woods Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the church.

I met Bill many years through the Sons of Confederate Veterans organization. I had the pleasure of inducting Bill into the SCV, as well as Thad who was then attending The Citadel. Bill loved his family, was a fine gentleman and I had immense repect for him.
