Dale J. Schmitt, 99, of North Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Leonore, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the Douglas T. Jacobson Veterans Home in Port Charlotte, FL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, May 23, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Leonore with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. Visitation will be held 9:00-9:50 AM Monday at the church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Lostant.
Mr. Schmitt was born June 3, 1922 in Leonore to Fred and Leona (Pflibsen) Schmitt. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He married Betty Lou Dreesen on July 1, 1944 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Leonore. Dale was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Leonore, the VFW, the American Legion and the Elks. He enjoyed boating and sailing.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Schmitt of Richland Twp.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lou in 2003; two sons, Donald and Terry Schmitt; a sister, Roma Selby and a brother, Lyle Schmitt.
Memorials may be directed to the Leonore Fire Department.
Pallbearers will be Scott Hoge, Mike Schmitt, Kyle Hoge, Terrence Hoge, Tyler Hoge, Miles Walder and Doug Hoge.
