Denise Michelle Deckard, 61, of Marseilles, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.
Denise was born May 1, 1963, in Ottawa, IL, to Richard and Sally (Katrein) Dennis.
She worked for many years at LaSalle County Nursing Home. In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She had a green thumb, and would frequently take home plants from residents at the nursing home and bring them back to health. She loved the beauty of nature. If she wasn't sitting outside with her cup of coffee, she was watching the birds and animals through her window. She was an animal lover and nursed many different injured animals. She was a great cook, especially making her family her roast beef, meatloaf or her delicious soups. She enjoyed watching a good horror or western movie and crocheting and crafting. Above anything else in life, she loved her family. She adored her children and grandchildren and spent as much time with them as she could. She will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to meet her.
She is survived by her mother, Sally Dennis; her children, Michael Hylin, Amber (Mathew) Underwood, Sarah Gordon, and Lindsay Deckard; 13 grandchildren; her siblings, Jim (Colleen) Dennis, Debi Dennis, and Diana Dennis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Dennis; her son in law, Mike Gordon; a brother in infancy, Richard Dennis; her brother, Steven Dennis; and her nephew, Jake Sauer.
Memorials may be directed to an animal shelter or cancer research foundation of the donor's choosing.
In honoring Denise's wishes, no funeral ceremonies will be held. The family asks that you please think of all the great memories you have of her and celebrate her life in your own unique way.
