Died: November 2, 2025 in Kankakee, IL.
Frank J. Latino, 90, born November 4, 1934, passed peacefully surrounded by family on November 2, 2025. He was the son of Nicholas and Jennie Latino.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 8th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday, November 7th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Streator.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his parents Nicholas and Jennie, brothers Nicholas and Victor, and sister Jennie Rathbun.
He is survived by brother Michael and wife Lisa Latino, sons Dennis and wife Tami Latino, Rick Latino, Frank and wife Elizabeth Latino, and Joseph Latino, daughters Lynn Latino, and Lisa Latino, grandchildren Cristina, Anthony, Angela, Vanessa, Vincent, Thomas John, Carissa, and Frankie and eight great grandchildren.
Frank was a lifelong resident of Streator Illinois. He graduated from St Mary's Grade School and Streator High School's Class of 1952. After graduation, Frank followed in his brother Victor's footsteps and enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He served as 3rd Class Electrician Mate.
Returning home from service, Frank worked at Owens Glass for 15 years. In 1968 he earned his membership into Laborers' Local #82 working construction. Frank was elected the Business Manager of Laborer's Local #82 from 1974 until he retired in 1990. He was a Laborers' Union member until his death.
As the Business Manager of Local #82, Frank served as a delegate to the Laborers' District Counsel in Peoria Illinois and as a delegate to the Laborers' International Union Association's electoral conventions.
Along with fellow Skilled Trades brethren Mike Ryan and Ned Champlain, Frank was an organizer and staunch advocate for the Labor movement in the Democratic Party.
A lifelong and avid outdoorsman Frank shared his love for hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He was a member of the Sandyford Sportsman's Club since 1962, serving as Recording Secretary. He maintained his membership for over 60 years, then was abruptly dismissed from the club for the reason of "retirement".
Community Service:
Trustee for Streator Trades and Labor from 1974 to his retirement.
Trustee and Secretary Treasurer for Streator Food Pantry for five years
Member of the Streator Building Trades, serving as President for two years
Streator Labor Management Committee.
Job Training Program(JTPA) Committee with Pam Furlong
Volunteer for Salvation Army's "Reagan Cheese" distribution.
