Joan, W. Schmitt, 76 of Streator passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 in Columbus, OH.
Joan was born April 7, 1947 in Terre Haute, IN, a daughter of Dale and Pauline Lacey. She married Robert Schmitt on December 18, 1971. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Lacey (Mike) Barahona and their children, Sedona and Roman, of Columbus OH, Erik (Rachel) Schmitt and their daughter, Ellyse of Columbus, OH; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Pauline Lacey; and an infant brother.
Joan received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University. She had worked in District 44 for over 30 years as a first-grade teacher and later a kindergarten teacher.
A private memorial service will be held at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Streator Public Library or Streator Elementary School District 44.
