Muriel Koetz Obituary

Died: December 16, 2023 in Grand Ridge, IL
Muriel Rose Koetz, 88, of Grand Ridge passed away on Saturday evening, the 16th of December, surrounded by her family at home. A visitation will be held Friday, December 22nd from 10am - 12pm at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at noon, with burial to follow at the Grand Rapids Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Muriel was born August 25, 1935, in Streator, IL to Lemuel and Florence Naomi (Offord) Rees. Muriel attended Grand Ridge Grade School, graduated from Streator High School in 1953, and then attended Illinois State University. She married Dale Koetz on June 8, 1958, who preceded her in death on September 11, 2009.
Muriel was a member of the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Ridge Rembrandt Art group, showcasing her art as recent as August 2023 at Grand Ridge Days. Muriel taught many years at Grand Ridge Grade School, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed arts, crafts, reading, and gardening.
Muriel is survived by her daughter Camala (Joseph) Mueller of Ottawa, son Jeffrey (Kim) Koetz of Grand Ridge; grandchildren Matthew (Marissa), Andrew (Oksana), MaryErin (Greg), Kathleen, JoEllen, Susannah, and Rachel (Juan) Mueller; Abbey and Emma Koetz; great grandson Lakin; brother Lem (Susan) Rees of Grand Ridge; brother-in-law David (Donna) Koetz of Lockport, and many special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, brother Dr. John Rees, sister Sharon (Jim) Fox, and dear companion Dale Hampson.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church or the Grand Ridge Fire Department.

Mrs Koetz was a wonderful teacher. Probably my favorite one at GRGS. She will be sadly missed and right before Christmas is especially sad. So sorry for the loss of your Mom, Sister and Grandmother.
