Shirley Margaret Argus was born July 24, 1923 in Ottawa IL and passed into eternal life on
March 11, 2023. She was one of the seven children of Joseph and Ethel Goetsch. Shirley graduated from Ryburn Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Ottawa and Cook County Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago IL with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology.
Shirley married Frank Argus on April 12, 1947 and remained happily married until his passing in 2006. They had one son, Charles Argus (Martha) of Stockton CA and two grandsons, Joseph of Oroville CA and Thomas (Leanne) of London England. Shirley was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for 70 years as well as the Young Ladies institute #110, St Agatha Guild and the Our Lady of Fatima Seniors Group. She was an avid bridge player in several regular groups and a member of the "Girls" Tuesday luncheon group.
Shirley enjoyed volunteering at the OLF parish office, the Government Commodities Program and Interfaith Ministries. Travel was also a source of enjoyment with trips and cruises to Great Britain, Germany, the Holy Land, Mexico, Panama and the St Lawrence River to name a few.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother Louis Goetsch of Ottawa IL, son Charles (Martha), grandson Joseph, grandson Thomas (Leanne) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Modesto CA on Tuesday March 28. Burial was at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella CA.
The family wishes to thank the caring souls at Casa De Modesto and Community Hospice for their support.
