On Sunday, January 11, 2026, Junior Davis-a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend-was called to his eternal home at the age of 89 in
Gastonia, North Carolina. Junior was born on March 25, 1936, in Pale City, Alabama, to the late Junia Davis and Sadie Austin Davis.
Junior accepted the Lord at an early age and lived his life grounded in faith. He was a devoted and faithful member of First AME Zion Church, where he served joyfully as a member of the choir.
Junior was employed as a coal miner in Buchanan County VA, where he worked diligently until his retirement. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching his Boston Celtics, the Dallas Cowboys, and a good wrestling match.
Junior Davis and the love of his life, Malinda, shared a bond that was both rare and enduring-a love story written over 65 beautiful years of marriage. From the moment they joined their lives, they moved through the world hand in hand, choosing togetherness in all things. They traveled side by side, explored new places, and built a lifetime of memories rooted in laughter, faith, and deep companionship. To know Junior was to know his devotion to Malinda; she was always his first thought and greatest joy. In the quiet moments of everyday life, his love was most evident-whether through gentle acts of care, like faithfully rubbing her feet at the end of the day, or through his constant presence and attentiveness. Junior was a devoted husband in the truest sense, loving Malinda not only with words, but with consistent, tender actions that spoke volumes. Their marriage stood as a powerful example of commitment, partnership, and unconditional love-an inspiration to all who were blessed to witness it.
From this loving union, three sons were born-Jeffrey, Michael, and Meredith-each a profound source of pride for Junior. He poured himself into their upbringing, coaching his sons in baseball and football, teaching them discipline, teamwork, and the value of showing up for one another. For Jeffrey, one of Junior's proudest moments was witnessing his son return safely from active military duty and go on to earn his college degree-a testament to perseverance and purpose. With Michael, joy was found in shared experiences, including attending his very first live NBA game together, watching Junior's beloved Boston Celtics take on the Charlotte Hornets, a memory filled with excitement and connection. For Meredith, Junior treasured the simple moments most-stopping at McDonald's or Tastee Freeze for a footlong or piling into the back of the truck after football practice, laughing and heading home together. Junior took great pride in all three of his sons graduating from college and becoming members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., accomplishments that reflected the values he instilled in them. A proud father in every sense, Junior's morals, work ethic, and deep commitment to family have been passed down through his sons and now live on through their children.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of sixty-five years, Malinda; three sons, Jeffrey (Tammy) and Michael Davis of
Gastonia, North Carolina, and Meredith (Kellie) Davis of Georgia; one sister, Jean Davis of Huntington, West Virginia; and seven grandchildren.
Above all, Junior was a man of faith whose life reflected the love of God in word and deed. The lessons he taught-through patience, hard work, humility, humor, and quiet strength-continue to shape his family and all who knew him. He trusted God's promises, walked faithfully in His grace, and now rests peacefully in His presence. Though he will be deeply missed, Junior leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will endure for generations to come.
A homegoing celebration to honor Junior's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Minister Francine Saunders officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield.
