Aaron M. Forbes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 31, 2005.
Being in the Army helped Aaron M. Forbes focus and mature _ and reconnect with his father. "If you knew him before he went in the military, you would have seen a totally different guy," said his father, Allan Jokisch, who enjoyed frequent phone calls from his son. "In the last four years, whenever we'd get ready to hang up, we'd always say, 'I love you, man.'" Forbes, 24, of Hilton Head, S.C., was killed Dec. 29 in Baghdad by a roadside bomb. He was assigned to Fort Hood. Forbes joined the Army in 2002 and married his wife, Brittany, that July 4. Before he left for his second Iraq tour, they finalized adoption of her 5-year-old son, Alex, from a previous marriage. "He loved that little boy so much," Jokisch said. Forbes' mother, Majorie Jokisch, died in January 2001 of ovarian cancer. His sister, Alecia, died that July at age 21 after fainting at the restaurant where she worked. Jokisch said he and his son had a sometimes distant relationship. But after the two deaths, things began to change and Forbes moved in with his father. "He was my best friend, I swear," Jokisch said.

I served with Aaron in 03-04 deployment to Iraq. When Aaron walked into a room his positive energy would spread. No matter how down I was he would know how to pick me up. I never had to look behind me to see who had my back because Aaron was always there to help me when I needed it. Aaron is an angel who was sent to earth and was called back home. It was an honor to serve with Aaron, the other fallen heroes of B.co, and those that I have served with.

Everyday I thank God for my nephew's greatest and unselfish sacrifice. Like so many fallen soldiers who have sacrificed before him, Aaron M. Forbes (Jokisch) has given every American their freedom. I admire him for the beautiful person and man he had become. I think of him often, especially when I’m at work where I can see his beautiful face. I ask God to help govern this world we live in and to guide and strengthen our military to where one day this war will be over. I’m thankful for all the fallen comrades and my heart breaks when another soldier is mentioned paying the ultimate sacrifice. I love and miss you; wish we had more time together. Your loving aunt.

In Memory of Aaron ~ (Debra Estep)

January 1, 2009

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Aaron, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Al,
Heard about the loss of your son and was really sorry to hear it. Hope you are doing well. I remember him well those few summers of work.

August 16, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

mrs. Forbes,
my husband served with aaron in iraq the first tour in 03-04 and has nothing but great memories of him from when they served together. The one thing that he said he will never forget is how much he loved you and your son. I hope that as the first anniversary of his death approaches that you and your son will find peace in knowing that even though aaron is no longer with you, that his spirit will always be here, and will be with all of those whose lives were so lucky to be touched by him. You, aaron, and your son are always in our family's thoughts and prayers, and we thank you for your sacrifice, aaron!! God bless all three of you!!

January 27, 2006

I would like to give my condolences to Aaron's wife Brittany and son Alec, who I have not had the pleasure of meeting. My name is Lauren Maxwell, now Lauren Connolly. I graduated High School with Aaron and became quite good friends with him as he was in our little "group" of friends. I was honestly in complete shock when I heard the news, and am forever greatful for the honorable man that he became. Some of my happiest memories from High School include Aaron, and I still to this day have the photo's of all of us together to remember him by. Aaron is a better man than all of us for standing up and choosing to defend our country, and he has made all of us proud. Aaron, we will never forget you.

Hi, I'm logahn(not a guy). I heard that he died, and thought about what i wanted to do when i was older.Well i wanted to be a navy seal, but mom said that i wouldn't be aloud. it ticked me off but then i realized that the job might be best to the pros because of her reasoning and Aaron Forbes did put his life on the line for me and i thank him and his family for everything that they have done.and i feel terrible about how her died.

I was in basic training with Aaron. Actually he was my bunk mate. No matter how bad my day was or what mood I was in, Aaron would be the one to make me forget about all of my problems and make me laugh. He would brighten the worst of situations with his beautiful words about his at the time soon to be wife Britany and his very much loved son alex. Those two were all he talked about. I myself served in Iraq, but never had the opportunity to serve with Aaron. I will be heading over to the middle east again soon and I will be taking my love and memories of Aaron with me.

Thourgh i never got to meet Aaron M Forbes he is a hero to my friends as well as family, i send my sympathy for Brittany and Alec and Aaron's father, brother, mother-in-law and those i have not mentioned. I started making a speech for my school on God, Flag and Country, it is required every year for junior high students. My friends decided that they would make it easy and do it on the Flag but i wanted to mention someone courageous and honorable in my speech so i read about people serving for our country and while looking for a pen pal, i found pages about your son/husbands death,i read everything i could about this man and while reading he gradually became my hero. i now think of Aaron every night when i say my prayers. and i pray for you and your family; that you are feeling better and that you are safe, especially Alec. I did put Aaron in my speech but i will not say it until i have his families permission to mention him, i feel it would not be right if i did not ask permission. So please email or im me back, i will answer any questions. Thank you and God Bless.

I served with Aaron in 588th and the 1/67. During our first tour in Iraq we had become close friends and when we had found time to relax, he used to tell me about his family back home all the time and how much he missed them. Before heading to a class at University, I received this horrible news and I pray that everyone in the Forbes family keep the strength to carry on into the next day and find comfort in this time of loss.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

THANK YOU!!! Only those who have experienced such an unfortunate loss can truly understand how you feel. On behalf of my family and millions of Americans we wish you God's Best as you reflect, as time goes by, of the wonderful times you, and friends, shared with Aaron.

America has many strengths, and one of the best has always been those who are so ready to serve in the military. Aaron was another fine example of the zealousness of youth to help others, even those in another country, despite the risk of losing their own life, so that others may have a life that provides freedom and opportunity to be all that God wants them to be.

May your memories of him sustain all of your family members & friends, for your lifetime, as you remember his desire to serve others. Know that there are others out here that know what you are going thru! And we are here for you! You are in my thoughts and prayers!

I lived across the street from you and your family. I've watched you on many occassions with Britney and Alec. I didn't know you, but I could see that you were a wonderful father and husband. I'm so sorry to your family. Your loss is tremendous. I'm sure you will be missed by many. Just know that others saw how special you were, even if they didn't know you, they could see your dedication. You are a hero to all.

Though I never got the chance to meet you, your brother spoke and will continue to speak great things about you. Such loss should not have to be endured by anyone, yet here we are. May the Lord keep you, Alecia, and Marj safe to watch over Kenny. You will be missed. You are loved.

Spc. Aaron M. Forbes - Another HERO lost - one life is too many. Know that I know first hand there is nothing anyone can truly say right now. Our Hero son SFC Brent Adams was killed in Ramadi on 12/1/05. May your tears eventually turn to smiles at the memories of this courageous young man. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this process. I pray for peace so that our remaining soldiers may be brought home safely to their anxious and awaiting families.

God Bless
