Abel Benjamin "Sonny" Walton Jr.

Abel "Sonny" Benjamin Walton, Jr. of Mauldin SC passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 5:06 p.m. at Saint Francis Eastside Hospital in Greenville SC.

Sonny was born in Panama City, FL on August 24, 1942. He grew up in Tifton, Georgia and lived the last 50 years in Mauldin SC.

He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and the UGA School of Pharmacy.

Sonny loved the Lord, loved his family and friends, and was a proud Georgia Bulldog and lived his 83 years to the fullest. He loved to spend time at the lake pulling people behind his ski boat and made many trips scuba diving anywhere he could. Sonny was fun loving, generous, and always lending a hand to his family, friends and neighbors.

Sonny fought the good fight and his family and friends draw comfort that he is with his Lord and Savior, but his kind big heart and gentle presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Sonny is survived by his sister, Madelyn Dickson (Norris); and his brother, David Walton (Lenora). He also leaves behind his daughter, Tara Slatton (Dale Tessier), of Donalds SC and his son, Wil Walton (Ajla Kamber), of Cincinnati OH; five grandchildren, Shelby Slatton, of Donald SC, Koty Slatton, of Donalds SC, Irnes Babajic (Tavo Orozco), of Woodstock GA, Ariela Jimenez (Chris), of Fort Riley KS, and Zarina Walton, of Cincinnati OH; and two great grandchildren, Sawyer Slatton, of Donalds SC and Mateo Jimenez, of Fort Riley KS.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. unitl 2:45 p.m. at Mauldin Methodist Church, followed by the service at 3:00 p.m and burial in Mauldin Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations to Mauldin Methodist Community Meal program.

The family invites all to wear game day gear. Go Dawgs... but we are tolerant.
