Ada Marie Cayton Maness Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory - Greenville on Jan. 8, 2026.
Mrs. Ada Marie Cayton Maness, 97, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 AM at First Free Will Baptist Church of Washington. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at the church.
Ada was born and raised in Pitt County before moving to Roanoke Rapids, where she graduated from William. R. Davie High School. After high school, she moved to the Washington, D.C. area, where she met and married her late husband, Charles F. Maness. Much of her adult life was spent in Maryland, where she raised her family and worked for a number of years for the Super Giant Department Store. In retirement, Ada and Charles moved back to North Carolina, living in Grimesland and later in Washington. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, where she was currently the oldest living member. Ada and Charles enjoyed the Sunday School class and participating in all of the church events. They delighted in visits from the children of the church and looked forward seeing them. Ada also enjoyed working on ceramic crafts, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ada Cayton; son, Daniel R. Maness; granddaughter, Lindsey Maness; and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her son, Charles K. "Ken" Maness and wife, Cindy; daughter, Sandie Blocker Kaplanis; grandchildren, Chris Blocker and wife, Maggie, Shane Blocker and wife, Renee, Kari M. Williams and husband, Timmy, Heather M. Erwin and husband, Fred, and Rob Maness and wife, Shasta; and five great-grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church of Washington, 901 N Bonner St, Washington, NC 27889.
