Ada Marceil Mathews, an accomplished artist, interior decorator, florist, and dedicated mother, grandmother, and wife, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on January 21, 1943, Ada led a life rich with creativity and service. As an Air Force veteran, her commitment to her country was matched only by her devotion to her family and her passion for artistic pursuits.
First and foremost, Ada was a beloved mother to her three children: Nancy LaJudice (Joseph), Ed Mathews (Suzanne), and Janet Mathews. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a grandmother, where she brought joy and inspiration to her ten grandchildren: Shelby, Hannah, Olivia, Matthew, Gabrielle, Vera, Katherine, Rebecca, Megan, and Stephanie. Each of them carries forward her legacy of creativity, love, and resilience. Ada is the beloved older sister of her surviving siblings Barbara, Patricia, Sally, Nolan, and David.
Ada's artistic talents shone through in her work as a florist and interior decorator, transforming spaces into beautiful reflections of her unique vision. Her artistic journey was not merely a profession but a calling that brought beauty into the lives of countless individuals.
She joins her late husband, Edward Mathews, in eternal rest, alongside her parents, Elwin Rickels and Verla Rickels, and her sisters, Margaret Lee and Jo Anne "Tina" Rickels. Ada's family remembers her not only for her accomplishments and talents but also for her immense warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with everyone she met.
Ada Marceil Mathews leaves behind a profound legacy as a trailblazer of creativity and a pillar of love within her family. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her for years to come.
