Carine Archer
November 21, 1941 - September 4, 2025
Carine Marie Archer, 83, of
Walnut Creek, California, and formerly of Santa Rosa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Carine grew up in Santa Rosa and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1959. She went on to earn her B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She continued her education at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, earning her J.D. in 1966. At Hastings, she served as class secretary and was one of only four women to graduate that year.
Carine began her legal career as a probate and trusts attorney at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco, where she lived for several years. She later served as a supervising attorney at the California Continuing Education of the Bar, where she played a key role in legal education. Notably, her work editing the 1979 publication Estate Planning for the General Practitioner
provided practical guidance to attorneys on drafting wills, managing probate, and addressing tax considerations.
Carine later resided in Moraga and Walnut Creek. She survived the devastating Oakland Hills Firestorm of 1991, narrowly escaping with her two cats and only a handful of belongings. She savored life. Carine loved to travel and practice speaking French, immersing herself in new
cultures with enthusiasm. She had a passion for collecting art and jewelry, relished lively discussions on politics and current affairs with family and friends, and enjoyed sharing a good bottle of wine-ideally paired with a cheese plate. Carine's quick wit and candid nature left an impression on all who knew her.
Carine was predeceased by her parents, William Marius Archer (d. 2008) and Clema Kozak Archer (d. 1986). She is survived by her brother, William L. Archer (Kathleen) of Santa Rosa; her nephew, Bryce Archer (Rebeca), and their children, Dana and Juliette, of Clayton; her niece, Erin Greene (Jordan), and their children, Catherine "CC" and Conrad, of Alexandria, Virginia.
A private family service was held at Santa Rosa Memorial Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held in Walnut Creek in October.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carine’s memory to the de Young Museum at
www.famsf.org/giving to honor her love for Asian art featuring floral motifs.
