Adam Neal McCaleb, 59, of Edmond, Oklahoma departed this life, surrounded by his family, Sunday evening on April 23rd, 2023, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 4th, 1964, to parents Neal and Georgann McCaleb.
Adam was raised on the outskirts of Edmond, Oklahoma. A talented storyteller, Adam recalled many stories from his childhood of the countless adventures he and his siblings had on 'the land' in Edmond. Adam graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1982. After graduation, Adam studied marine biology in California and later concluded his undergraduate studies in history at the University of Central Oklahoma. In 1996, Adam married Susan Jech and together they had a beautiful daughter in June of 1997. His daughter McKenzie was the pride and joy of his life, and he didn't fail to pass down to her his love for learning, pride of his Chickasaw ancestry, or his great taste in music. One of their favorite activities to do was to travel together. They would frequently drive to Colorado to ski and hike. Together, Adam and his daughter attended many historical reenactments across Oklahoma where Adam would often portray both Confederate and Union soldiers. During a couple of these reenactments, Adam took pride in his heritage and dressed appropriately as a Chickasaw warrior. He and his daughter would often welcome guests to the historical sites during these events and together, they would play civil war songs on the jaw harp. Along with Civil War history, Adam loved learning about and living out his tribal heritage. Adam eventually learned how to stomp dance and passionately learned many of the chants and verses to the stomp dance songs as well. Adam also undertook learning some of the language, ancestral stories, and even some regalia making techniques of his esteemed and beloved tribe. Adam passed on his many talents, passions, and stories to his daughter who cherishes them dearly. One day, McKenzie hopes to share these stories and knowledge with Adam's grandchildren.
Adam is survived by his beloved daughter, McKenzie McCaleb, and son-in-law Ismael Ramirez. He is also survived by his loving parents, Neal and Georgann McCaleb, and his siblings, Kevin McCaleb, Katie McCaleb Turner, and Caleb McCaleb. Other survivors also include several nieces, nephews, cousins, and much extended family.
A celebration of life in honor of Adam will be held Saturday, May 6th at 2:00 pm at Crawford Family Funeral Home in Edmond, OK. He will be buried near family in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Services will be made available via livestream, here on Adam's tribute page, just prior to services beginning.
