GALION - Addison R. Lawrence, 95, of Galion, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025. He was born in Reelsboro, Pamlico County, NC, to the late Thad and Nellie (Scarbrough) Lawrence on August 13, 1930.
Addison was a high school graduate of Lee Woodard High School. After graduation, he was called into duty for the United States Army, honorably serving during the Korean conflict from 1951 until 1953, as a radio operator. After his time in the service, Addison dedicated his career to Sprint Telephone Company in Fort Myers, FL for over 36 years. He held various positions with the company, including being a training manager, outside plant manager and division test board manager.
He met his wife, Judy Cook in Fort Myers, FL. They were united in marriage in 1987, beginning a beautiful journey that blossomed into 38 years of unwavering love, devotion, and companionship.
Addison's hobbies include amateur radio, genealogy, traveling, camping and cooking on the grill for his friends and family. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Addison held an extra class amateur radio license. He was President of the Fort Myers Amateur Radio Club for several years and helped the club start its website. Addison dedicated his time as an ARRL Volunteer Examiner and worked closely with the emergency coordinator for Lee County during Hurricanes Charlie and Wilma. While stationed at Red Cross shelters, he played a crucial role in maintaining communication, relaying essential messages among shelter managers, the emergency operations center, the Red Cross, and other shelters.
Addison is survived by his wife, Judy Lawrence, his daughters; Cathy Sellers of Florida, Tammy Dotson (Joe) of Michigan and Lori Lawrence of Florida; five grandchildren: Henry Cole, Miles Cole (Christine Chun), Chrissy Allen (Russell), Hope Dotson, and Taylor Hale; 15 great-grandchildren: Hattie, Cora, Callie, Avarie, Bethany, Cooper, Lucas, Zoey, Olivia (Cameron), Hailee, Maddison, Aubrey, Jack, Parker, and Bridgett; and two great-great-grandchildren: Carter and Elliott.
In addition to his parents, Addison was preceded in death by his daughter, Ellie Lawrence, grandson, Danny Dotson, brothers, Russell, Watson and James Lawrence, his sister, Arwhina Bass and son-in-law, Jeff Hale.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the Gompf Funeral Service - Galion Chapel, 303 Portland Way N., Galion, from 11:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with full military honors.
