Adela Alvarez Obituary Adela Alvarez of Milford, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the age of 81. She lost her battle with Interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, had lived a long and fulfilling life and is now finally at home in Heaven and reunited with her husband, her Florencio, whom she missed dearly since his passing.
She was born on July 20, 1944, in Mission, Texas, to Octavio Casares and Vicenta Martinez Casares.
Adela was a hard-working lady her entire life, one beautiful day while picking berries in Berrien Springs, Michigan she met a young man by the name of Florencio Alvarez, like she, he too was working as a migrant farm worker. At the age of 23 she married the love of her life and best friend on April 20, 1968, in Mission, Texas. They did everything together, from family gatherings, holidays, cookouts, graduations, weddings and of course their many fun trips to the casino and visiting family. They raised three beautiful daughters that affectionately called them "Ama" and "Apa", shared the joy of becoming grandparents and celebrated 52 years of marriage together before he passed away on November 6, 2020.
In 1970 Adela and Florencio moved to Milford, Indiana and made it their home. She worked for many years at Smoker Craft in New Paris, Indiana as a boat prepper, retiring in 2009. She was simply a great Mom and loved caring for her family. Visits to her home always began with Adela asking about how your family was and offering you something to eat and even a plate of food to take home to eat later. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and giving them wonderful hugs. Her sincerity shone through in her genuine compassion for others. Adela was purely a kind and polite person with a big heart who enjoyed visiting with others, having great conversations and a good laugh. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Chalupa Loteria with her family, watching her many novelas over the years and even watching football.
She spent her time on this earth living her life to the fullest and loving people in a great way. Adela will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by her entire family. She leaves behind three daughters, Maria Alvarez (Syracuse, IN); Patricia Alvarez (Milford, IN) and her fiancé, Matthew Stormer (
Warsaw, IN); Silvia Alvarez and her fiancé, Michael Rizzo (Oakland, MI); her former son-in-law, Daniel Garcia (Zionsville, IN); and her two beloved grandchildren, Luke Garcia (Zionsville, IN) and Marina Rizzo (Oakland, MI).
Also surviving are two sisters, Oralia (Margarito) DeAnda (Mission, TX); Virginia (Larry) Coffel (Milford, IN); as well as her mother-in law, Maria Piedad Garcia Gomez (California); brother-in-law, Faustino Alvarez, Jr. (Matamoros, Mexico); sister-in-law, Hilda Guajardo (San Benito, Texas); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Florencio, and two brothers, Thomas and Higinio Casares.
