Adelaide Campbell, 89, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Avita Health System of Bucyrus.

She was born September 22, 1934, in Panama to the late Joseph and Mary (Clemens) Haynes. On December 24, 1958, she married James M. Campbell who was serving in the Air Force. He went on to become an officer and they enjoyed time spent living in Germany as well as various states throughout the US before his retirement, at which time they moved to Bucyrus.

Adelaide had worked some jobs outside the home, but mainly cared for her family as a homemaker. In the early 1970s, while living in California, God brought her to an Assembly of God Church. Adelaide was immediately filled with the presence of the Lord and has been a believer and worshipper ever since. Her key to happiness has been to “praise Him for everything,” especially when there seems to be some “bumps in the road.” He’s always present and will steady the ride. At a point in the mid-70s, she began passing passed out Prison to Praise books to those in need and this ministry continued throughout her life. When they moved to Bucyrus, she immediately became active at the Bucyrus Assembly of God, serving on the church board, including the committee which brought the Rebon’s to Bucyrus. She ran the Children’s Ministry, was involved with the Women’s Ministry (speaking on several occasions), was instrumental in the Worship Banner Ministry, Prayer Ministry, active in Bible studies, and anywhere else that God could use her. Adelaide was very thankful for the many friendships formed at Father’s Heart Healing Center and truly considered everyone at the church her family. She had also been active in Aglow International for many years and served as a lead organizer for this region. As Jim’s hearing began to decline, they became involved in the Mansfield Deaf Club, and she very much looked forward to the monthly dinner gatherings.

Adelaide loved to laugh as well as make others laugh. She was very inspirational towards others, both when talking and writing. She was a gifted artist who was professionally trained and enjoyed painting with oil and watercolors. She had a great love for animals, especially her cats, and Adelaide jumped at any opportunity to be outside, where she could be one with nature. She enjoyed time spent with people and they shared many meals, good fellowship, and several games of “Bid,” her favorite card game. Their sunroom offered much relaxation and more recently, she enjoyed perusing Facebook, where she made several friends and enjoyed the games.

Adelaide is survived her children, Cynthia (Paul) Murphy of Monument, Colorado and Michael (Leslee M. Benson) Campbell of Collinsville, Illinois; grandchildren, Daniel Murphy, Malcolm Murphy, Shaun (Lillian) Murphy, Danielle (Paul) Dedmon, Jason Vinberg and Jeffrey Parks; several great grandchildren; cousin, Deborah K. Malcolm Turner; nieces, Pamela Haynes Drinkwater and Deb Disher as well as many that she adopted from her heart and loved including, Pastor Dan and Karolyn Rebon. Adelaide is reunited in Heaven with her husband Jim, her baby girl, Katherine Mary Campbell and her brother, Daniel Joseph Haynes.

A memorial gathering will be held from 6 – 7 pm at Father’s Heart Healing Center on Monday, May 13, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm with close friend and pastor, Dan Rebon officiating. Adelaide’s cremated body will then be scattered on their family land.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Father’s Heart Healing Center and will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook.
