Adelard Everton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arthur P. Graham Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2026.
Obituary of Reverend Dr. Adelard P. Everton

Reverend Dr. Adelard P. Everton, 92, formerly of Reading, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Princess V. "Pat" Everton.

Born in North Attleboro, he was the youngest of 17 children, five of whom died before he was born, of the late Joseph, and the late Laura (Chabott) Everton.

"Al" as he was known by family and friends, joined the Army during the Korean Conflict, and served overseas in Germany during the occupation. Al earned his GED while in the military, and upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled in Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy.

Al had attended the North Attleboro church as a young adult, and there received the call to the ministry. Al met his future wife "Pat" in college chemistry class, and they married in 1959. Their next move was to Kansas City, MO to attend seminary. After graduating, Al and Pat returned to New England, where Reverend Al was assigned to the First Church of the Nazarene in Fitchburg.

After two years, he was offered a church in Somerville, which burned down. It was soon decided to combine several Baptist churches in Somerville and erect a brand-new church, the Community Baptist Church in Somerville.

During the early 1970s Reverend Al graduated from the Andover Newton College, earning his Doctoral Degree, with an emphasis on Clinical Psychology; and obtained his Psychology license. He worked as a Chaplain for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and as a liaison in the Somerville Court.

The next church Reverend Al pastored was the West Medford Baptist Church, a part-time position in addition to his private practice in counseling. In the mid-1990s, Reverend Al felt his work was finished in West Medford, retiring from the ministry as well as retiring from his counseling practice.

Finding retirement did not suit him well, he missed pastoring. An opportunity came to serve as pastor at the First Congregational Church in Chelsea, and became their part-time interim pastor in 1998. After retiring from his final assignment in Chelsea, Reverend Al continued to officiate the occasional wedding or funeral and enjoy his retirement with his wife Pat. He also enjoyed meeting every Wednesday in various restaurants around Medford with his close circle of five friends, referring to themselves as "The Board." Six years ago, after 47 years living in Reading, Rev. Al and Pat moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody.

Reverend Al was the beloved husband of 66 years of Princess V. "Pat" (Fleagal) Everton. In addition to all of his siblings, he was predeceased by his daughter, the late Dr. Wendi J. Everton, and his son, the late Steven B. Everton. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Wendi's wife, Norma Vivar of Storrs, CT; and his grandchildren, James and Jason.

A visitation will be held at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield on Friday, March 6 from 10:00-11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at the Wood End Cemetery in Reading.

Contributions in Reverend Al's memory may be made to the Reading Public Library, 64 Middlesex Ave Reading, MA 01867 (www.friendsofreadingpl.org) Arrangements by the Arthur P. Graham Funeral Home, Woburn.
