Adele Johnson Obituary

Adele C. Johnson

March 7, 2025

Adele C. Johnson, a beloved figure cherished by her family and respected in her communities, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7th, 2025. Adele was born in Vineland, NJ, and throughout her life, she was a devoted resident of Millville, NJ, and Avalon, NJ. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, whose lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.

Adele is survived by her loving children, her daughter, Lorraine Bonifield (Steven Konecny); and her son, Charles V. Johnson. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Victoria, Nicholas, Adele, Devon, Paighton, and Danielle; and her beautiful great-granddaughter, Sophia. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Leann Johnson.

Adele was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lorraine Cunningham; her beloved husband, Carl H. Johnson Jr.; and her dear son, C. Howard Johnson III. She was also the granddaughter of the famed glass manufacturer, Victor Durand.

An alumna of the prestigious Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA, Adele furthered her education at Syracuse University, graduating with the Class of 1955. With her husband, Carl, she co-owned Avalon Anchorage Marina, sharing a passion for the marine life that surrounded her community.

Adele's dedication to service and leadership was evident through her membership in the US Power Squadron and her service on the advisory board of the Bank of NJ in Vineland. Her community benefitted greatly from her roles as an organizer and director of Millville Youth Week and Millville Hospital Volunteer Services. She was a guiding voice on the Board of Directors of the United Way, Millville, and played a pivotal role in creating and nurturing the Millville Marlins YMCA swim team. Adele also devoted her time to the Newcomb Hospital Foundation in Vineland, the NJ Marine Trade Association, Millville Woman's Club, State Federation of Women's Clubs, Avalon Chamber of Commerce, and Cape May County Chamber of Commerce.

Beyond her professional and community involvements, Adele loved traveling the world with her husband, exploring new places and experiences. Her winters were happily spent in the warm embrace of the Cayman Islands, and she enjoyed boating and a myriad of water activities.

In accordance with her wishes, Adele will be cremated privately, and a burial in her family grave will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Adele's memory to South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, 1244 N. Delsea Dr., Vineland, NJ 08360. The family invites all who knew and loved Adele to share their memories and condolences at christyfuneralhome.com.
