Adele Ida Pitts

Adele Ida Shaw Pitts was surrounded by her loving family when she peacefully passed away, on June 25, 2024, at the age of 90. She and her husband, James, moved to The Grove at Canopy in Tallahassee, Florida in 2021 after living in Chattahoochee, Florida for more than 66 years. She was born March 23, 1934, to Flem and Essie Berryhill Shaw in Guin, Alabama.
Predeceased by her husband, James, she was the last surviving sibling. She was also preceded in death by both parents, sisters, Mable Shaw Gray, Edith Shaw Cravey, Faye Shaw Tolbert, and brothers, Roland Eugene Shaw, and Leon Middleton Shaw.
She is survived by her loving children, son, Larry Pitts and daughter, Brenda Pitts Olsen as well as her grandchildren, Jason Pitts (Natalie), Jennifer Pitts Verbeck, Bonnie Olsen Lindsay (Ian), and great-granddaughters, Megan Pitts, Mallory Pitts, Kaley Verbeck, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Adele will be remembered as a community staple. While working as a cashier, she befriended all that came into the local IGA in Chattahoochee, FL, at the same time raising her family and the Gregory Street boys. Most will remember Adele's love of cooking savory Southern cuisine and making sure everyone who walked through her door had plenty to eat. More importantly, she will be remembered for the love for her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. She served her community by volunteering several hours a week for many years at the American Lung Association in Tallahassee, alongside her husband James. She actively participated in annual fund-raising events where they were awarded the Volunteer of the Year in 2000 for their dedication and hard work.
Services will be at McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, Florida on Saturday, June 29, 2024. The viewing begins at 10:00 AM Eastern Time, the service at 11:00 AM Eastern Time, and the interment following at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee, Florida.
