Abingdon, Va. – Adell Reed Spears, age 74, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2024. She was born in Nodena, east of Wilson, Arkansas, on May 8, 1949, to Nancy Ewing Reed and the late Oscar Reed, Jr.
Adell graduated from Wilson Trade High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She moved to Abingdon as a young adult and was a member of Valley Street Baptist Church. Adell was an employee of the Ball Corporation for many years from where she retired.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Reed Lowery, and Jeanie Reed Sheffey; a brother, John Henry Reed, Sr.; and two nephews, John H. Reed, Jr., and Ronald T. Reed.
In addition to her mother, Adell is survived by her daughter, Nicole Johnson; grandsons, Christopher Spears and Isiah Spears; special brother, Oscar Reed III and wife Regina; one uncle, Isiah Reed; two nephews, Gary Grice and Anthony Frazier; four nieces, Naomi (Iydell) Irvin, Dorothea Frazier, Dorothy Frazier-Morales and husband Isaias, and Rachel Sheffey; great nephew, her “Bossman”, Isaias Morales; great niece, Asia Frazier; a host of cousins; and special friends, Cheryl Coleman, Becky Dunn and Arthur Beidleman.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Pastor Dwayne Knight officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
