Adonis “Donnie” Sowell, age 61 of Moorefield, WV, passed away peacefully Friday, December 19, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 15, 1964, in Queens, New York City, Donnie was the beloved son of Anna Belle Kane Sowell of Queens, NY and Cornell Sowell of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kelly A. Cole Sowell who passed away in August 2018.
Donnie had recently begun enjoying a well-earned retirement after 15 years on the road as an over-the-road truck driver. He loved the freedom and adventure of traveling but equally reassured the comfort of home. Whether he was cooking up a feast for family cookouts or heading out with loved ones to enjoy a meal, Donnie’s joyful spirit and warm laughter brought light to every gathering. He embraced life fully and cherished making memories through travel and shared experiences with those closest to him.
Donnie is survived by his mother, Anna Belle Kane Sowell of Queens, NY; his daughter, Jarell D. Sowell of Moorefield, WV; his son, Tyrell A. Sowell of Moorefield, WV; his sister, Brenda Redmon of Queens, NY; four cherished grandchildren, Jae’Sean, Janiyah, Kellan and Kylo; his nephew, Jason Redmon; his niece Crystal Redmon and his mother in law, Jackie Russell. He is also survived by a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Charles Henry officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM Saturday prior to services.
