Adrian Lou "Nip" Knippenberg, 86, of Cumberland and Cresaptown, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Sterling Care Frostburg Village.
Born September 12, 1938, in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late Louis and Mary (McKee) Knippenberg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helene Schilling and daughter-in-law, Sharlene Knippenberg.
Adrian was 1957 graduate of Allegany High School and attended Fairmont State College. After college, he joined Schmidt Baking Company. Adrian worked in California, Florida, Washington, D.C. area and Cumberland in several different business ventures. His last job was at Holsum Baking Company where he was a Regional Supervisor.
Adrian enjoyed dancing, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling and water skiing. He enjoyed going to the beach in Ocean City and attending his reunion class luncheons. Adrian was a member of the Cumberland Elks, Cumberland Moose and Jaycees.
Adrian is survived by his wife, Lois (Ashenfelter) Knippenberg; children, Kim Rotruck and husband, Neil, Mark Knippenberg, Suzanne Hartman and husband Chris; grandchildren, Jennifer Wensink (Tom), Stephen Rotruck, Chad Knippenberg (Katie), Drew Knippenberg (Jess Harding), Jackie Sagal (Jeff), Haley Handera (Chris), and Zach Stewart; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jan Jackson; niece and nephew, Sherri Jackson and Mark Jackson (Cindi) and son, Taylor, and close friends, Lonnie Jackson and Mary Rice and son, Larry.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David Hattenfield officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 930 Frederick St, Cumberland, MD. In honor of Adrian's memory to a charity of your choosing.
