Adrian James Krogstad, age 87, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Heritage Lutheran Church in Brandon. Interment will be in the Willow Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Willow Creek Cemetery, Shriners Children’s Hospital, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Adrian was born on December 17, 1937, on the home farm, to Oscar Theodore and Agnes Margaret (Steen) Krogstad. He grew up on the family farm and was baptized and confirmed at Willow Creek Lutheran Church. He graduated from Baltic High School in 1956. After high school, he joined the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1963. While shopping at Peterson’s Drug Store in Dell Rapids, Adrian noticed the flashing smile of Marcella Ann Olsen from Trent. They were married on August 14, 1964, at Trent Baptist Church. Together they established Ka-Mar Holsteins, and continued the Krogstad family legacy on the land and expanded the dairy operation. Marcella passed away on October 30, 2018.
Adrian was a past member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church and a current member of Heritage Lutheran Church in Dell Rapids. He served on various boards including: Baltic Lumberyard, Baltic Grain Elevator, Southeast District Holsteins, Local Land O’Lakes, and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was also a member of the American Legion. Adrian enjoyed working with his cows and spending time with his grandchildren. After retirement, he enjoyed working with a scroll saw, fishing, golfing, and singing in men's groups.
Survivors include his children: Gail Opoien (Tom) of Tea, SD, Lowell Krogstad (Becca) of Evan, MN, John Krogstad (Allison) of Pella, IA, Paul Krogstad (Sarah) of Corsica, SD; grandchildren: Joseph, Vix, Lily, Jonah, Daniel, Kenny, Ben, Caleb, Lucas, Austin, Addison, and Mary; two great-grandchildren; siblings: Doris Brown of Brookings, SD, Margaret Tidemann of Baltic, SD, and Glen (Carol) Krogstad of Colton, SD; sister-in-law: Doris Krogstad of Baltic, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Agnes; wife, Marcella; siblings: Allen, Madeline Winterton, Vickie Howe, Ordell, and Richard.
