Adrian Chu Redmond, Acclaimed Artist & Beloved Charlotte Community Member, Remembered
CHARLOTTE - Adrian Chu Redmond, an irreplaceable wife, mother, and artist - whose joyful spirit left an indelible mark on all who were lucky enough to know her-passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2025.
Born on July 5, 1960, in New York City, Adrian created a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and inspiration that touched family, friends, and art lovers around the world.
The youngest of four sisters - Cori, Linn, and Caren - she had an idyllic, lively upbringing in a glass house perched atop a hill in Tarrytown, New York. In 1978, Adrian headed off to Boston College, where she excelled academically, forged lifelong friendships, and discovered a passion for Marketing: a successful pursuit that would showcase her brilliant creativity and take her to Manhattan after graduation, for her first career in radio. It was also at BC where she would meet the love of her life - her future husband of 39 years, Michael Redmond.
On her 47th birthday, Michael gifted Adrian a painting lesson - a gift that would unexpectedly spark the second act of an already remarkable life. From her first brushstroke, Adrian exhibited a natural talent that would rapidly evolve into a celebrated career as an artist, with her work spotlighted and awarded at internationally acclaimed galleries and shows across the U.S. and overseas.
Known for her poetic eye and intuitive skill in bringing energy and expression into everyday life, Adrian's paintings capture fleeting moments, emotions, and sensations, reflecting her ability to find beauty in the ordinary, particularly nature. Beyond the canvas, Adrian was a deeply cherished member of her many communities. Famous for her magnetic personality, boundless energy, and unwavering commitment to family and friends, she was involved in all aspects of life – from local arts endeavors to myriad after-school sports to bustling social gatherings, small and large, far and wide. Whether she was entertaining at one of her famous Chinese New Year dinners, volunteering with young creatives at the Levine Children's Hospital, loving on her golden retrievers, hiking the Camino de Santiago, or simply lighting up a room with her presence, Adrian never failed to bring people together, making every single one feel happy, seen, and valued.
In addition to Michael, Adrian is survived by her three devoted children - Ally, Conor, and Devin, as well as her two daughters-in-law, Mary and Caroline - who are proud to carry forward her kindness and dedication to living radiantly optimistic and fearless lives. Her greatest masterpiece, she always said, is her family.
Adrian's life will be celebrated with a service at Belk Chapel on July 19, 2025 at 3:00pm, followed by a gathering at the nearby Queens Hall from 4:00-6:00pm. Per Adrian's request, women are encouraged to wear white (her angels).
The family asks that for those who would like, donations can be made in her honor to Kemp Bessant Support Center and Jane's Fund: two organizations inspiring hope for those battling cancer.
Adrian's life was a rich tapestry of creative accomplishment, cherished connections, over-the-top adventure, and deep-rooted joy – because she built it that way. She will be remembered not only for the physical and spiritual beauty that she brought into the world, which will endure, but also for the endless light and levity that defined the way she lived. She painted her world with vivid color, courage, and love - and ours are forever brighter for it.
