Agapito "Pito" Sanchez Martinez, 67, of Big Lake, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 26, 2026, following a vehicular accident in Mertzon.

He was born on October 17, 1958 in Ciudad Acuna to Beatriz and Juan Sanchez and was the oldest son of twelve siblings. In 1990, he and Margarita Ledesma welcomed their daughter, Mercedes, and in 1994, they welcomed their son, Hector.

He grew up in Acuna before the family moved to Big Lake. In his younger years, Pito enjoyed dancing and traveling. In more recent years, he found joy in visiting with family and had a special gift for making others laugh. He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and the love he shared with those around him.

Pito dedicated much of his life to working in the oil field at Globe and Esbjerg Oilfield. In his later years, he enjoyed collecting and selling scrap metal, always keeping himself busy. He was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at the Apostolic Church in Big Lake.

He is survived by his twelve siblings, Paula Martinez of Dallas, Maria "Chayo" Griner of Austin, Juanita Reyes of Del Rio, Martha Ramos of Denver City, Victoria Gomez of Iraan, Bonifacio Sanchez of Acuna, Teresa Sanchez of San Angelo, as well as Juan Sanchez, Rosalinda Sosa, Blanca Jaramillo, Beatriz Alcantara, and Dulce Chavez all of Big Lake., two children, Mercedes and Hector, and nearly 50 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Ezekiel Sosa, and his infant sister, Beatriz.

A closed-casket visitation will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Apostolic Assembly Church located at 200 S. Main St in Big Lake.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Apostolic Assembly Church, with burial to follow at Glen Rest Cemetery and a meal at the Rancho Grande building at 407 S. Plaza St.

Pallbearers will be Juan Sanchez, Bonifacio Sanchez, Alex Chavez, George Reyez, Mario Jaramillo and Raymond Saldibar Jr., and honorary pallbearers will be Bonifacio Sanchez Martinez, Juan Pablo Sanchez Martinez, Hector Sanchez.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Irion County Sheriff's Office and DPS officers, as well as Robert Massie Funeral Home, for their care and assistance during this difficult time.
