Agatha Jaramillo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Mortuary - Las Vegas on Aug. 10, 2024.
Agatha Gregoria Jaramillo, our mother, who was better known as Aggie was born in Moriarity, NM to Barbara Margie Armijo. Aggie was raised in Las Vegas and Wagon Mound, NM. She lived life to the fullest and always dressed so elegantly. Aggie would go to her nail and hair appointments faithfully until five months before her passing. She had a beautiful collection of jewelry and always wore her fancy jewels and clothes. Our hearts are sad, but we thank God for lending us our mother for 85 years. Aggie was so much fun and often told her family and friends chistes. She loved to crochet and made scarves, hats, blankets and even doll dresses. She loved to cook and often said, "No one cooks like me". She became an amazing cook as she had to feed six boys, one girl, and her second husband during the years she lived in Santa Rosa. Aggie had nine children and endured the passing of an infant son and two adult sons.
Aggie had two sons during her time in Las Vegas then moved to Portales, NM where she met and married Celestino Chavez in 1959. They had two sons and after Celestino's death in 1962, Aggie gave birth to their daughter three months later. She met and married Jesus Velasquez in 1968. They made their home in Santa Rosa, NM and raised her three sons, her stepdaughter, and three sons of their own. They would often go to the horse races in Santa Fe, Ruidoso, and Albuquerque. In 2006, Aggie married Jose P. Jaramillo. They lived in Las Vegas and then relocated to Edgewood, NM. This was a very happy time in her life until his death in 2006. Although Aggie lived through some challenging times throughout her life she attended church regularly. She was fortunate to meet Johnny Leroy Valdez (also known as Roy). They had so much fun together cruising around Las Vegas and northern New Mexico attending mass weekly as Roy is a loyal member of the Knights of Colombus as well as to the local VFW. Aggie loved Spanish music and enjoyed dancing. They traveled to several cities and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is an amazing and caring man who took care of Aggie until her death. He cooked and cleaned for her providing care and comfort throughout her illness. He also took care of her loyal and faithful dogs Myra and Ginger.
Preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Valentina Duran, her sons Chris and Jessie Velasquez, Ernest Ortega, stepdaughter Marcella Romero, stepfather Donicio Armijo, mother Barbara Margie Armijo, grandson Emilio Sanchez, and her dear Aunt Maria (Cookie) Ortega.
The family that Aggie leaves behind are Leroy Sanchez (Albuquerque, NM), Joe and Michelle Chavez (Dallas, TX), Dennis and Cordy Chavez (Santa Rosa, NM), Connie and Chris Manzanares (Las Vegas, NM.) Manuel and Marcelina Velasquez (Santa Rosa NM), Anthony Velasquez.(Santa Rosa) Her grandchildren Veronica Levacy, Cody Sanchez, Treshanna Ortega, Theresa Bachicha-Griego, Jocelyn, Amber, Yvonne and Carlos Chavez, Rhianna and Chris Manzanares, Rebecca and Daniella Romero, Alex and Manuel Velasquez, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and her Uncle Alfonso Ortega, her Aunt Lorenza Vigil, and many cousins including her close cousin Ruby Ortega who would visit and call regularly.
